Cooking Outside: Our favourite recipes for a summer BBQ

As the summer season is just around the corner, it’s time to plan your BBQ recipes and make sure you have the right fuel for your outside grill. Below, we introduce you to five of our absolute favourite BBQ recipes that are both delicious and super simple to put together.

Straight-up grilled steak

Few things can beat a steak that has been grilled to perfection. Whichever cut you prefer, the secret is to marinate your steak the day before to ensure it’s tender and bursting with flavour. Just before you grill it, season your steak with herbs and salt before cooking to your preference. As BBQ recipes go, straight-up grilled steak is one of the easiest, but it’s also one of the tastiest.

Tangy burgers

While you can buy burgers straight from the supermarket to add to your BBQ, making them yourself with minced meat is so much better. Mix onion, Worcestershire sauce, honey, and oregano, and you have a match made in heaven. Top with some mature cheddar and a freshly baked bun, and you’re all set.

Smoked corn on the cob

One of our favourite BBQ recipes doesn’t include meat at all - smoked corn on the cob! Leaving the husk on, add the cob directly onto the grill and season with salt, pepper, and a knob of butter. Sprinkle some paprika onto the corn for something a little more exotic, but don’t go overboard! Smoked corn on the cob tastes delicious just as it is.

Pineapple and chicken kebabs

Pineapple on a BBQ, really? Absolutely! Cut some chicken breast cubes and add them to a skewer, separating each cube with a generous cutting of pineapple. Pineapples work really well on the grill, sweetening up your chicken and adding a Hawaiian-themed BBQ recipe to your repertoire this summer.

Balsamic-glazed portobello mushrooms

One for the vegetarians out there, balsamic-glazed portobello mushrooms topped with cheese are a perfect substitute for a meat-based burger. First, marinate the mushrooms in balsamic vinegar and grill them until soft. Then, after sprinkling them with pepper jack cheese, you have a meat-free burger that your BBQ guests will just adore.

Is your BBQ ready for the summer season?

Now that you’re armed with these delicious BBQ recipes, it’s time to make sure your grill is ready for the summer season. You will need to make sure your BBQ is clean and prepared for use before deciding on the right fuel. At Homefire, we stock Barbecue Briquettes that burn for longer and provide consistent heat. If you’re cooking over an open stove in your garden, consider our kiln-dried logs that have been dried to a moisture content of less than 20%, making them a great low-emissions option.

These BBQ recipes will get the taste buds tingling and ensure you host garden parties to remember this summer. Don’t forget to fuel your BBQ with the right charcoal so that you can cook these delicious dishes to perfection.
