What are the benefits of burning Firewood and Coal together?

The quick answer is YES you can! However, not ‘all’ coal and logs can be burnt together.

Why burn logs and coal together?

Burning coal and logs together can produce a gorgeous fire, with the aroma and long flames of a log fire, combined with the high heat output and longevity of solid fuel. Your fire can burn hotter, and for longer. If you usually burn wood, mixing fuels can also be beneficial to your appliance, as the higher temperatures produced by the coal help to drive off any residual moisture in the logs, reducing the build up of tar.

You can also add coal to a log fire if you need to keep the fire going for an extended period.

Which fuels are recommended?

We recommend that only smokeless coal and a very dry wood, such as our Kiln Dried Wood are burnt together. The lack of moisture in the wood is crucial, so if you don’t use kiln dried logs always ensure that your wood is well seasoned before burning alongside coal. Our customers have told us that their favourite smokeless fuels to burn with logs are Homefire Ovals and Ecoal50

As usual, you should always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your appliance with regards to choosing a fuel, and mixing fuels.

Homefire Ovals Smokeless Coal A slow burning smokeless coal which packs together tightly in the grate to provide maximum heat output for a s long as nine hours.
