Summer Prep: How to Get the Garden Ready for Hot Season

As summer is just around the corner, there’s no better time to get your garden ready for socialising. Given the tough weather we’ve experienced in recent seasons, a fair amount of prep is required to get your outside space back in tip-top shape. Below, we share some of our tips on how to get your garden ready for the summer season, ensuring it’s a place where your family and friends feel welcome.

Prepare your outside areas

Every garden is different, but you’ll need to start preparing your space for a summer of fun. You’ll need to cut the lawn, prepare the borders, and trim any overgrown bushes or trees. If you have a patio area, it’s time to get the jet washer out to soak away any moss and grime that will have accumulated throughout winter and spring. Cleaning the furniture that has been sitting outside during the colder months is another no-brainer. When your outside areas are ready, it’s time to focus on the BBQ!

Clean the BBQ

A dirty BBQ just doesn’t get the job done and is much more likely to burn your food. While it’s always better to clean the BBQ as you go, it’s also important to give it a thorough deep clean before summer starts. Even if you have covered it, insects and small rodents may have sheltered inside during the cold months, so it’s important to wipe away those cobwebs and give it a thorough once over. After all, the summer is incomplete without BBQs, so you need to make sure yours is clean and ready to go.

Set up a fire pit

While your summer garden events typically start when the sun is beating down and the beers and wine are flowing, as nighttime draws in, the temperatures cool considerably. The shrewder members of your group may have brought a cardie or jumper with them, but there’s no better way to warm everyone up than lighting an outside fire. One option is to buy an outdoor stove or chimney from the store, while another is to build a fire pit yourself (depending on how good you are with your hands). An ideally positioned fire pit in your garden will add a whole new dimension to your summer garden parties, especially when using our fire pit bundle.

Get the right fuel

Now that you’ve cleaned the BBQ and created a fire pit, it’s time to get the right fuel for your fire. Our kiln-dried firewood has a moisture content of less than 20% and burns brighter and longer than standard wood, making it the perfect fuel for outdoor fires. For the perfect summer BBQ, our BBQ briquettes are just what you need to get things up and running. Be sure to check through our bundles, too, which consist of multiple fuel sources and are ideal for various uses at home and in the garden.

As the summer season nears, it’s time to prep your outside space. Few things are as enjoyable as welcoming friends and family over for a BBQ or outdoor soiree, so we hope you make the most of these top tips and get your garden summer-ready.
