Our favourite recipes for a summer BBQ

It doesn’t matter how much time you put into setting up your summer barbeque party, we all know what barbeques are really judged on. You guessed it - the food. Whether you’ve got your family or a couple of mates coming round, nailing those all-important recipes will help you live long in the memory of BBQ folklore. To give you a helping hand, here are some of our favourite BBQ recipes for this summer.

The classic burger

What’s a BBQ without a burger? Burgers are part and parcel of BBQs all around the world for a reason. The main thing to remember with burgers is: keep it simple. Overcomplicating things and putting too many layers into your burger will only make them difficult to eat, as well as being overpowering. In our eyes, lettuce, tomatoes and some delicious cheese are all that’s needed to create the perfect burger for those warm summer days. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Homemade BBQ sauce

With all that said, don’t forget the sauce! Rather than buying BBQ sauce from the nearest supermarket, why not challenge yourself by making your own? Homemade BBQ sauce is surprisingly easy to create - all you have to do is cook some onions until golden brown and add some passata, peppercorns, salt and peppercorns. Don’t be afraid to get creative either! You could add some dijon mustard and chilli powder to give it that extra kick. Trust us - after one round of burgers and sauce, it will become a staple of all your future BBQs.

Veggie alternatives

For the sake of the herbivores out there, you should always ensure you’ve got plenty of meat alternatives at your BBQ. Halloumi kebabs are a delicious choice, giving you that meaty texture contrasted with some sumptuous vegetables. If you’d rather keep things simple, we suggest going for some non-meat burgers and hot dogs that are simple to cook and still taste delicious. Alongside those meat alternatives, stay stocked up with a variety of refreshing salads dips.

Something fishy

While red meat and sausages might be all the rage at summer BBQs, don’t overlook some delicious fish. Both salmon, mackerel and sardines are all perfect for BBQ cooking and can be cooked up in a variety of mouth-watering ways. Salmon parcels are especially easy to make with very high returns on taste - simply wrap some foil around your individual fillets before spreading some butter, honey and soy sauce over the meat. The result? The perfect BBQ fish option, which combines delectably with light salads.

As with all barbeques, if the fire’s not doing its bit, you’ll definitely come up short. If you want a strong, long-lasting fire that helps you knock out those burgers, you’ll want to take a look around our collection of premium charcoal. Check out our BBQ and firelighting section today for more.
